The object of the paper — Modern German gradual particles. The aim - revealing of differential peculiarities, lexical meaning, discursive - pragmatic peculiarities and scale-modifying function of gradual particles. The methods of the investigation — descriptive, comparative, the method of communicative blocks modeling, the methods of structural and pragmatic analysis.The theoretical results and novelty — The semantico-pragmatic meaning of gradual particles reflects their communicative - functional value which we analyze emploing the notions of existential and scale implicature. Their discursive-pragmatic meaning is revealed at the level of conversational implicatures and pragmatic presuppositions. At discourse markers gradual particles have cohesive function and are marked of text/discourse coherence. The practical results: Their scale-modifying function is revealed in the influence om their co-cjnstituents' morphological characteristics, determining their position on gradual scale. Gradual particlesimpart pragmatic characteristics into the semantic category of graduation. The field of application: communicative linguistics.
