Essay

The object of the research is simple contact repetition (SCR) in the modern English discourse. The aim of the research is the integrated functional analysis of simple contact repetition within the framework of the cognitive and discursive paradigm: determining its cognitive, communicative, pragmatic and linguosemantic characteristics, as well as its linguostylistic peculiarities in the English discourses of various types. The methods of the research are those of deduction and induction, as well as methods of contextual, situational, functional, linguosemantic, distributional and component analyses. Theoretical results and novelty: the essence of simple contact repetition as the universal language category of repetition is determined; the typology of SCR is developed; the ontological status of SCR as a functional phenomenon on the basis of analyzing its cognitive and communicative aspects is determined; the peculiarities of its linguostylistic functions in various types of the English discourse (belles-lettres, poetic, scientific, publicistic) are studied; cognitive and communicative functions of simple contact repetition as well as its linguosemantic peculiarities in the English language are specified . Practical results: teaching theoretical courses in stylistics, theoretical grammar, interpretation of text; special courses in cognitive linguistics, pragmatics and theory of discourse. The sphere of application: stylistics, interpretation of text, theoretical grammar.
