Essay

This dissertation examines ritual songs in Bohorodchany, Dolyna and Rozhniativ districts of Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast. Since the distinction concerning Boykiv and Hutsul regions still remains undetermined ethnographically, the study of this territory can provide some key insight into this problem. The territory is especially noteworthy because of its melotypological variety – an uncommon occurrence compared to other Ukrainian ethnographic areas. This work provides a genre-typological network of ritual folk songs, outlines and maps the distribution of main melotypes, types and multiple types, and examines their transformation.
