Essay

An optimal MR protocol for patients with musculoskeletal tumors including native T1-WI's in two longitudinal planes, fat saturated native T2- and contrast enhanced T1-WI's in three planes were developed basing on quantitative analysis of native and postcontrast images. Combined analysis of native and postcontrast static and dynamic MR images allowed establishing 12 groups of symptoms for musculoskeletal tumors. This approach also increased accuracy of the differential diagnosis between benign and malignant musculoskeletal tumors up to 5-17%. Using of the combined analysis of pre- and postcontrast MR images allows diagnosis of some primary soft tissue (i.e. liposarcoma) and bone (i.e. hemangioma) tumors.
