Essay

Research subject: process of long plastic scintillators (LPS) obtaining. Research goal: developing of scientific-technological aspects of LPS production with enlarge light yield. Research methods: Monte-Carlo simulation, laser photometry, optical microscopy, accelerating aging method. As simulation results, light yield of LPS with fiber readout dependencies on material characteristics were obtained. Requirements for scintillator material which permit increasing light yield were formulated. New concept for LPS production was created, optimal technological parameters were determined. That allows to produce scintillator with 180 cm transparency and with light yield 1,4-1,5 times higher than world best analogues. Influence of light reflective cover composition (concentration, type and dispersion of pigment) on its optical and reological properties was studied. The plasticizer and method of application was determined allowing obtaining cover with optimal pigment concentration and reflective index 96-97 %. The new method of LPS obtaining has been introduced to the mass-production plant. Field of application: nuclear physics, high energy physics, nuclear safety.
