Object of research - novel-epopee by B.Lepky "Mazepa", poem by A.Pushkin "Poltava", libretto by V.Burenin "Mazepa" and libretto by D.Chutro and L.Tsegelsky "Hetman of Ukraine I.Mazepa". Purpose - comparative research of the possibility of the literature and music synthesis in the process of artistic image creation; intercorrelation of character making means of epic texts and music. Practical application - the results of the research may be used for investigation of the culture of epoch of Hetman Mazepa governing, for courses on history of Ukrainian and foreign literature in their relation with history of music. Methods: history-genetic, comparative, typological, hermeneutic and elements of structural methods.
