Within the dissertation thesis the author attempts to solve the methodological problem of understanding history of philosophy based on the historico-philosophical analysis, presented by G.W.F. Hegel and K. Jaspers, their chief methods, principles, approaches, formed within the tradition of German philosophical thought of ХІХ – ХХ centuries; performs comparative analysis of historico-philosophical standpoints, presented by Jaspers and Hegel; brings to light their genetic connections with historico-philosophical theories presented by I. Herder, I. Kant, J.G. Fichte, S. Kierkegaard, M. Heidegger; defines key aspects of methodological quest employed by Hegel and Jaspers, called to mitigate the opposition between rational and irrational in viewing history of philosophy.
