Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the analysis of creative work of a great historian of Russia, academician K.N.Bestujev-Riumin, known also as a founder of the Superior Women Courses that in his honour received the title “Bestujevskye”. Analyzing the peculiarities of the scholar’s life, the author reveals his personal contribution to various fields of historical science: in particular to historiography, source study, archaeography – and using “the portrait” of the historian gives the common features of the epoch and the regularities of historical science’s development of that time.
