Essay

This research focuses on the distinctions between the categories of emotionality and emotivity and on the differentiation of the two types of discourse: emotional and emotive. Comprehensive analysis of verbal and non-verbal factors which determine the degree of expressiveness of the discourses in question, has been made and the criteria of their identification are established. The paper defines semantic, structural and pragmatic peculiarities of English emotional and emotive discourses, suggests the models of their speech unfolding, reveals their functional specificities and predetermines the type of their addresser/addressee orientation. Emotive discourse compositional arrangement has been studied and three stages of its unfolding have been recognized. This allowed to reveal strategies and tactics of the speaker's speech behaviour as well as provide the opportunity to prove emotive discourse metacommunicative nature. Emotional and emotive discourses typology has been elaborated with regard to the speaker's intentions and speech colouring.
