ANNOTATION Voron Oksana Petrivna. The features of development of the Roman Catholic Church in modern Ukraine. - The typescript. The dissertation for acquiring the academic degree of a candidate of historical sciences in the speciality 09.00.11 - religion studies. The National University "Ostrog Academy", Ostrog, 2007. The dissertation is the integrated historical and religion-studying research which is the first of a kind for the domestic historical and religious studies aimed at integrated study of formation and functioning of the Roman Catholic Church in modern Ukraine. The study gives assessment to the process of reorganization and formation of constitutive structural units of the Roman Catholic Church which took place for a period of 15 years the independent Ukraine has existed. With the regard to dynamics and stages it has gone through the author arrives at the conclusion of the Roman Catholic Church revival being made possible owing only to Western Ukraine where religiousness was less ruined than in other regions of the state. With this the specific emphasis is laid on explanation of the national dominant and identification of the Roman Catholic Church in the environment of Ukrainian independence. The research enables to insist that it should be groundless to identify the Catholicism as the religion of some exclusive nation. The study of the evangelical activities exercised by the Roman Catholic Church allows to claim that the former are based on adaptation of the conventional practices and incorporation of the new ones which when combined made them unbeaten and efficient. The study of the enlightening, missionary and charitable activities of the Roman Catholic Church made it possible for the author to define the priorities of these activities. It gives a clearer understanding that in terms of the modern Ukraine the Roman Catholic Church exhibits its multiple view approach, dynamics of development characteristic of which are such features as updating and adaptation to the modern reality that has provided for its competitiveness. The research work states that presence of the religious organizations on the pre electoral scene that unfolds in the country should neither be equal nor dominating in the affairs of the Church. Evaluation the policies of the Roman Catholic Church which are in the line with the laws of Ukraine enables to claim that the former are optimal and have good prospects. The research also attends the issue of the relations between the Roman Catholic Church and the state. Examination of the changes these relations have undergone for the last years allows to classify their patterns and mechanisms. The authors concludes that regardless of the existent legislation regulating these relations they need thorough revision and new constructive solutions. The research work also considers the background of the conflicts that stand in the way of cooperation between all the Christian creeds. That accounts for study the paper gives to such phenomenon as proselytism and factors that stimulate the congregational conversion.
