Essay

For the first time complex studying of glycoside composition of the stem bark, leaves, fruit pericarp and seeds of two varieties of Kalopanax septemlobus have been carried out. Chemical structures of 40 glycosides of beta-amyrin type were determined, 16 from them have not been found in K. septemlobus earlier (5 of these – in Araliaceae), and 13 – are new compounds. For the first time esterified glycosides containing a trans-caffeic acid in Araliaceae family and the new type of triterpene glycosides containing glucuronic acid moiety at C-28 aglycone atom were found. It was shown that the row glycosides of K. septemlobus possess high antifungal activity against pathogenic Candida albicans. Phytochemical comparative study of two varieties of K. septemlobus glycoside composition was carried out. It was suggested to raise the rank of these varieties to the self-contained species of Kalopanax genus.
