Essay

The process of rising and development of archaeology is analyzed. The most important institutions - centers of archeological investigations in L'viv are shown and their role in formation of archeology as distinct scientific discipline. The influence of archaeological exhibitions and assemblies of the second half of XIX century on the process of development of archaeology is researched. This dissertation is the first attempt to analyze field archaeological excavations on the territory of Eastern Galicia (Halychyna) in complex. Three periods of development of the field archaeology are distinguished. The map of sites, where excavations took place during this period of ХІХ - beginning of ХХ centuries has been created.
