Ivanina T. Small-size English Political and Biographical Text: Structural and Pragmatic aspects

The thesis focuses on a complex research of structural and pragmatic characteristics of a small-size English political and biographical text. Basing on the material of the British and American texts the research reveals the status of a small-size English political and biographical text; it describes the algorithm of applying structural and semantic, cognitive as well as semiotic approaches; the work singles out semantic, structural and semiotic peculiarities of genre modifications (encyclopedic, educational and agitational ones) of the small-size English political and biographical text. The analysis of the rubric model of the text under research shows the specific character of its lexical filling. The study outlines the semiotic space of a small-size English political and biographical text in its three genre variations within the British and American linguistic traditions and establishes the universal and culture-specific features of a small-size English political and biographical text in the linguistic tradition. Genre and communicative division and information structure are common both for the British and American small-size political and biographical text. The linguistic and cultural differences connected with dominant concepts and political traditions result from the informational priorities and lingua-cultural traditions.
