Object of research: the European writers' works in the first half of the XX c., Z.Freud's and L.Vyhotskyi's investigations of "Hamlet". Purpose: to define the image of Hamlet national and gen-eral function tendencies. Practical application: the introduction of the material about the "life" of the image of Hamlet in the European literature into Literary studies, the comprehension of hamletism as a literary main theme and peculiar category, the usage of the results for courses on History of literature, theoretical seminars. Methods: com-parative, genetic, contact, typological.
