Essay

The thesis deals with the political activity of Quintus Sertorius - a politician and the commander at the end of Roman republic (second half ІІ - І centuries BC). The text considers Sertorius as the politician of an evolution period - the off-system practices carrier. The author understands by off-system practices a motive power of transformation of the Roman society, and activity of the commander interprets as the form of man's influence on new quality formation of society. Raised questions, which had not involved attention of scientists earlier had been investigated in this text: understanding of the commander's participation in political strike of 80th years of first century BC as period of his off-system practices carrier formation; influence of these practices on the contents and methods of Sertorius's political activity in Spain during Sertorian war (80-71 years BC). In addition, the author treats some traditional questions for Sertorian problem in a new way: a position of different groups of provincials during the becoming of Sertorius's authority above the Roman provinces in Spain, a parity of the higher authority in Sertorian state, actions of provincial policy of Sertorius during Sertorian war and disintegration of Sertorian revolt.
