Composer's most important works are analyzed as well and mutual connections are found between master's creative searches and changes of his philosophic and aesthetic views. The art of Luis de Freitas Branco is presented in the context of the emerging Portuguese music school of composition and musicology, therefore special attention is drawn to the composer's activity as pedagogue, publicist, and scientist.
