Essay

Dissertation is devoted to summarizing historical and codicological research of peculiarities of structure and decorative shaping of Byzantine-type bookbindings of Suceava Metropolitanate, and L'viv and Przemysl dioceses of Kyiv Metropolitanate of the 14-17th centuries. The author has explored several large book collections in Ukraine and Poland. Basic methodical principles of description and specific features of bookbinding structure of that period have been defined. Byzantine and Balkan influences on development of book binding in monasteries and churches of Kyiv Metropolitanate of the 14-17th centuries, as well as changes in their structure under the influence of the European tradition have been traced.
