Essay

The thesis concerns the research of the process of adsorption modification of nonporous high-disperse silica with a large set of non-volatile organic compounds (biologically-active compounds and polymers) to provide its further using in medical practice and pharmacy. Such methods as adsorption, impregnation, mechano-sorption modification and that in a pseudo-fluidized state in the regulated gas dispersion medium were used to synthesize the modified silica samples. The degree of surface coverage and the adsorption layer structure have been found to be the same in cases of impregnation and equilibrium adsorption for the molecules strongly bound to silica surface (e.g. PVP and PEO). In other cases the modification by impregnation method is more effective considerably than that realized by the method of equilibrium adsorption. The modifier molecules have been shown to interact with free surface silanol groups directly rather than via molecules-mediators which are likely to be the residual solvent molecules.
