Vengrynovych A. Quantitative Characteristics of Noun Synonymy in Modern German.

The thesis aims at selecting and studying the factors which influence noun synonymy in modern German. The research has been conducted on the basis of analysis of noun selection from three authoritative German synonymy dictionaries. On the basis of noun classifications of the leading scientists and modern German grammars an own classification of synonyms according to their semantic and stylistic status has been suggested. By means of statistic methods the dependence of the quantity of synonyms of the German noun upon its semantic, stylistic and morphologic status has been investigated and the correlation of the number of synonyms and nouns of different morphologic structure, nouns of different frequency of use in the text and the amount of meanings has been revealed.
