Essay

The dissertation is the first comprehensive research of the history of the Petrokokino family who originated from the Chios Island and resettled in the Russian Empire at the beginning of XIX ct. During XIX - the beginning of XX ct., several generations of the family had been making a great contribution to the development of the economic, social and cultural life of Russia in the places of their settlement: Odessa, St. Petersburg, Taganrog, Kerch, Mariupol, Rostov-on the Don region, etc. The Petrokokino family was involved in international navigation, coast trade, goods import and corn-trade in the Black Sea and Azov-Don regions, self-service stores, banks; fire insurance office, tobacco factory, and joint - stock companies. They also started development of such new branches as gold-mining, steel mill industry, and production of construction materials. The Petrokokinos in Russia gave the bright examples of public and philanthropic activity as participants of municipal self-government, members of scientific and benevolent societies, sponsors of art and sport development. Genealogical schemes of separate families and the complete Russian branch of the Petrokokino dynasty (over 400 individuals) are added to the text.
