Essay

The dissertation under consideration dwells upon the functions of postmodern parabolic modification as a constructional basis in the novels by contemporary British author Julian Barns. The research regulates the views upon the genre of parable in both synchronistic and diachronistic aspects; the comparative analysis of ХХth century parabolic genre modifications in the light of "opera aperta" conception is given, the independence of postmodern parable as a genre modification is proved. The place of Julian Barnes' creative activity in contemporary literary process is determined.
