Essay

The chemical modification of chitosan by the reaction with aldehydes, ketones, chloroanhydrides of thiophen-2-carboxylic, methacrylic, heptanoic acid, maleic anhydride and pyromellitic dianhydride, chloracetic and thiosalicylic acid are investigated. The derivatives of chitosan with molecules of cyclodextrin are obtained. Acid-base and sorption properties towards the following ions of Cu(II), Co(II), Cd(II), Pb(II), Hg(II), are explored for chitosan and its derivatives, corresponding constants are calculated. It is shown that introduction in chitosan of sulfur-containing groups increase affinity to the Hg2+ ions.
