Essay

The dissertation focuses on consideration of Schenkerian elementary counterpoint didactics on the basis of intonation theory. Application of the duration-pitch intercommunication principle enables transforming the conceptual structure of elementary counterpoint, classifying melodic and linear figures as elements of intonation dictionary. Analysis of the figures reveals that reduction of a note’s duration amplifies its power to form discordances, and diminishes its melodic potential. Chrono-structural research localizes a break between real and “school” strict style on the stages of perpetuation and canonization of polyphonic doctrine. The model of pre-compositional facilities cooperation of strict style covers gamut and metrical relationship at the potential level, as well as involves melodic figures and metrical progressions (melodic layer), linear figures and pair co-ordination (linear layer) at the actualization level.
