The paper is devoted to the comprehensive analysis of humour: the cognitive nature of the phenomenon and cognitive mechanism of creating humorous effect were established, the peculiarities of cognitive influence made by the addresser of the message on the addressee with the help of linguistic means were studied from the point of view of frame theory.The main stages of the humorous effect process are: perception of any linguistic means by an addressee, unexpected refraining, defeated expectancy effect, realisation of alogism and appearance of a mental opposition in their mind. This process is affected by the personality of an addressee and his/her subjective position.The research allowed to classify linguistic means of creating humorous effect according to the peculiarities of cognitive influence made by the addresser of the message on the addressee with the help of these language means.The sphere of usage - higher school.
