Essay

The object: the paper examines English nominative substantive units denoting conflict. The objective of the research is to establish the systematic organization of the nominations denoting conflict in the aggregate of their language and discourse meaning-constructing functions. The methods: the complex methodology, applied in the paper, includes methods of etymological, componential, definitional analysis, field construction, contextual interpretation. The main results, novelty: among the main results of the research are the model of the noun conflict semantic structure, the construction of the lexico-semantic field CONFLICT, elicitation of meaning-constructing components found in the realizations of nominative units denoting conflict. Scientific novelty of the research is determined by the fact that it is the first time complex investigation of the English nominations denoting conflict has been conducted. Theoretical value: the results make a contribution into the theory of meaning in language, the development of field modeling theory principles with regard to modern approaches to structure and system. The research also contributes to discoursology by demonstrating the dependence of the discursive meanings created by nominative units denoting conflict upon the sphere of communication. Practical application: the results can be used in theoretical courses of English Lexicology (topic "Semantics"), General Linguistics (topic "Semantics"), in special courses on intercultural communication, in the sphere of lexicography.
