The thesis is devoted to the principles and development of a method of estimating the efficiency of protective advance overmining of outburst seams. As established, the efficiency of protective advance is determined by parameters of a protective seam and a working seam, thickness, strength and relative location of rock interlay-ers. The influence of interlaying rocks on protection effi-ciency is characterized by their relative deformation at the floor layer of a working seam. A procedure has been de-veloped to estimate relative deformations of overmined stratified rock mass. Through the method of principal components, a model presents precise separation of multi-dimensional units into three areas: without protection, with inefficient protection, and with good protection. A method has been developed to determine the efficiency of protective advance overmining of outburst seams for prac-tical use at the coal mines of Ukraine. Seam classification (discriminant analysis) in accordance with protection rateis based on analytical probabilistic assessments, through computer programming or a diagram. The method has been verified experimentally at Zasyadko Mine. Key words: outburst seam, advance overmining, rock deformation, interlayer, stratified rock mass, seam proper-ties, component analysis, discriminant analysis, statistical model, probabilistic assessments, protection efficiency.
