Evolution of the system of German vowels and origination of the new phonemes. The aim is to investigate the evolution of German vowels and processes which promoted the appearance of new umlaut phonemes. The methosd are comparative-historical, descriptive-analytical, probabilistic-statistical. The deachronic markers of the word were obtained and the tendencies of its development in the German language were established. The contribution to the development problem of phonetic-moephological structure of a German word on the backgreund of its vowel [honemes evolution was made. The usage - in University courses in history of the German language. The sphere of usage - higher school.
