Essay

The objects — dimethylamino-substituted aromatics; the goal — to investigate reactions of the Vilsmeier reagent in ortho-position to an aromatic dimethylamino group and to apply this reaction to the synthesis of new organic dyes and luminophores; the methods — organic synthesis, X-ray analysis, mass-spectrometry, 1H-NMR, IR, molecular absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy, quantum chemical semi-empirical simulations; the novelty — systematical investigation of interaction of the Vilsmeier complex (POCl3-DMF) with a verity of tertiary aromatic amines was first carried out, the influence of the substrate structure, the formylating agent nature and reaction conditions on the reaction rate and direction was determined; the spectral and luminescent properties of the synthesized compounds were investigated; the practical applications of these compounds as dyes and luminophores were proposed.
