Essay

Subject of inquiry: a horizontal-axis rotor of a wind turbine which transforms wind energy into mechanical energy; a safeguarding device. Object of research: determination of boundary power characteristics of a wind turbine rotor by means of developing mathematical model of a perfect rotor considering aerodynamic airfoil blades’ quality; use of boundary power characteristics when designing and developing rotor safeguarding devices. Methods of research: laws of physics and aeromechanics (3-rd Newton’s law, law of impulse conservation, law of Bernully, theorem of Froud-Finstervalder), numerical methods of dichotomy, Simpson etc. Theoretical and practical results and innovation: for the first time ever there has been developed a mathematical model of a perfect rotor that considers aeromechanic quality and due to which boundary power characteristics have been determined. Methods of using boundary power characteristics aimed at defining parameters for safeguarding devices have been developed. Subject and implementation phase: the results of the thesis have been used in wind turbines, the last were designed and produced at “UGMC” Co., (Kyiv, Ukraine). Effectiveness of implementation: increasing efficiency and reliability of wind turbines. Field of application: wind power industry, designing of free-flowing blade machines.
