This dissertation focuses on the semantic and pragmatic peculiarities of metacommunicative phase of parting in English discourse withdrawn from fiction. The paper reveals structural and pragmatic features of metacommunicative phase of parting, determines its status, pragmasemantic types and provides their characteristics. The main strategies and tactics of the speaker’s behaviour in the final phase of dialogue interaction are defined. As a result of this research, different pre-closing and post-closing parting statements of peculiar semantics and functions have been distinguished. Closing metacommunicative statements, which are represented as ritual terms of courtesy, are analyzed. The role of the forms of address in the final phase of dialogue interaction has been considered.
