Essay

The presented dissertation is devoted to the study and analysis of the names of craftsmen in the Silesian, Prussian and East-Pomeranian dialects of the XIV-XVII-th centuries. It also deals with the forms which were spread and used in the Old Polish language of that time as well as Old Byelorussian and Old Ukrainian of the XIV - XVII-th centuries. The dissertation gives the analysis of the word-formation peculiarities of Germanic borrowings. According to the results eleven thematic groups have been defined. The main objective of the dissertation is to determine the dialectal stems of the craftsmen's names, penetrating the Polish, Byelorussian and Ukrainian languages in the XIV-XVII-th centuries.
