Essay

Species composition of the family Cardiidae of Ponto-Caspian region consists of 40 species (in Ukraine - 19). Descriptions of 24 species with precise diagnostic features are presented. Morphological peculiarities of soft body structure of 18 species (including 8 species from the Caspian Sea) are given. Some important taxonomic conhological features are established. Relation to certain type of sediment is observed for 19 cardiid species. Seven morpho-anatomic peculiarities have strong correlation with depth of mollusk's digging in the bottom sediment.
