Essay

The thesis is an integral historical and philosophical research into the categories of tradition and novation in the Ukrainian philosophy of the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries. The work comprehends the essence and the main trends of origin and development of tradition and novation as categories involving retranslation of the achievements, their renovation and modification, appealing to them in the history of the home social and political thought as the categories of historical cognition (M. Kostomarov) and those of culture (P. Kulish, M. Gogol), approaching the national idea through basing of their Weltanschauung content (T. Shevchenko). The retrospective analysis of a role and a meaning of the categories of tradition and novation goes on by turning to the works of V. Lypynskyi, applying these categories as those of history of philosophy; by using them in D. Dontsov's social and political doctrine; and for historical and philosophical cognition in the works of D. Chyzhevskyi.Based on a comparative analysis the author demonstrates the necessity of application of the categories of tradition and novation to culture and philosophy for an extensive study of the history of philosophy of Ukraine, maintaining the treatment of the historical and philosophical process in its humanistic dimensions pluralistic and dialogic.
