Essay

This paper is devoted to the experimental and theoretical research of physical and chemical processes, which take place in oxygen converters. The paper aims at improving heat-resistant lining service of oxygen converters. The author is the first to solve the scientific and technical task of applying periclase-carbon lining for Ukrainian technologies in converter practice. The paper is the first formalize the influence of such factors as refractory brick porosity, its pore diameter, concentration of solvents in slag, interphase tension, wettability of refractory bricks in liquid phases of a heat, on the velocity of internal mass exchange processes, which determine the lining wearing. The original investigations of fine structure of periclase-carbon lining in cone and slag zones of converters first appear in this research work and the mechanisms of refractory wearning in the most critical zones for lining are described. On the basis of these investigation results, the practical techniques of the technology improvement are proposed. In a converter shop of LTD "Dnepropetrovsk Metallurgical Plant named after Petrovsky", the original complex of the technological parameters, which provides prolonging of lining life up to 2,000 heats, is established.
