Essay

The objects are Ursula Le Guin's fantastic works. The aim is to study Ursula Le Guin's fantastic works in the ontopoetic aspects. The methods are comparative, cultural-historical, system, descriptive, culturological, formal and hermeneutic approaches. The dissertation is the first attempt in Ukrainian literary criticism to research the ontopoetic aspects of SF and fantasy by Ursula Le Guin, an American writer. The discovering of 'tropological worlds' is worked out as the methodology of 'ontological poetics' of fantastic literature. This discovering is done by analysing the metaphoric and symbolic elements and the components of plot and imagery. Such 'tropological worlds' in Le Guin's works as 'word (name)', 'Yin-Yang', 'tree (forest)', 'web (fabric)', and 'music and dance', which reflect the immanent philosophy, are researched in the thesis. They don't contradict each other, but combine, making a new one - 'birth/giving birth'. Man's mission is creating existence from non-existence with the help of imagination that means the continuous giving birth to the world. Application sphere is the training courses.
