Essay

This research deals with one of the key problems of contemporary linguistic culturology: the concepts of LIFE and DEATH. The paper reveals the cognitive grounds of euphemism substitutions of concept of LIFE and DEATH from the linguistic cultural perspective. The ways of actualization of archetypes, archetype motives, archetype symbols of the concepts of life and death in the proverb fund of Ukrainian and Italian languages have been defined. The linguistic semiotics nature of the functioning of the concepts of LIFE and DEATH has been revealed. The gestalt representation of concepts of LIFE and DEATH has been modeled and described. The common genetic background of archetype, euphemism, and gestalt metaphor in relation with extralinguistic data has been thoroughly examined. The comparative typological description of linguistic means of actualization of euphemisms proverb fund and interaction of factors of their origin with reconstructed elements of linguistic world-image has been outlined. It has been proven that the analogues of psychological defense of negative forms have the reflection in the proverb fund.
