The thesis is a comprehensive investigation of euphemistic substitution in the English language. The euphemisms under study are classified into functional-pragmatic categories; their lexical, semantic, word-building, functional and pragmatic characteristics are analyzed. The classification of the word-formation analysis of the euphemisms under study makes it possible to single out the previously undiscovered mechanisms of enriching the euphemistic vocabulary.
