Essay

The dissertation deals with a research upon causes, conditions, ecological mechanisms of vertebrate invasions using Larus cachinnаns as a model - an invasive species on continental part of Ukraine. Changes of its historical natural habitat upon Ukraine, mostly the development of new colonies and new sites of wintering and migration ways changing were considered. It is assumed, that this circumstance is associated with occurrence of intraspecific competition for fish food in nest groups. Further increase in intraspecific competition is predicted.
