Essay

The object of the research: a rectangular elastic isotropic waveguide with free boundary faces. The subject of the research: normal waves that exist in such a waveguide, and also dispersion, kinematic and energy characteristics of these waves. Purpose of the research: theoretical investigation of normal waves in a rectangular elastic isotropic waveguide on basis of an analytical solution of the three-dimensional elasticity problem; study of the influence of physical and geometrical parameters of the waveguide on kinematic and energy characteristics of normal waves; determination of specific character for wave propagation in a rectagular waveguide in comparison with well-known modes of Rayleigh-Lamb in a strip and Pochhammer-Chree modes in a cylinder. Methods of the research: the boundary-value problem for normal waves in a rectangular elastic waveguide is solved by an analytical superposition method.
