Lobko N. Information Potential of Ukrainian Genealogical Sources and Its Use in Historical Researches.

In the thesis the first in Ukrainian historiography attemp of special complex researches into information potential of Ukrainian genealogical sources is made. The author expand the categorical device of researches, in particular the author makes a definition of genealogy as a science and for the first time gives a definition of family - biographical information. She finds out, classifies and systematizes the complex of sources which contains information of genealogical character. The author elucidates the degree of representative ness and reliability of displayed sources and makes the conclusion that they are rather informative and have a high level of reliability, their information potential gives an opportunity to restore Ukrainians' family trees. The author generalizes the methods of using information potential of genealogical sources by Ukrainian scientists and works out her own methods of using different sources, in the base of which there is display of information of genealogical content in the sources according to each section of Ukrainian society, and also in complex using of potential such sources as birth records books, "revizskie skazki", "ispovednye vedomosti" and suggests her own version of gathering and unification of initial information and one found out during investigation of archive sources of genealogical information, describes basic stages of genealogical quest.
