Object of research: the selected publicism of J.Steinbeck, novels, a story, works, biographical refer-ences of the researches of John Steinbeck's creation. Purpose: reconstruction of the other (that of the Italian, of the French, of the Slav) in J. Steinbeck's creative consciousness of an American. Practical application: the principles and conclusions of the given research enlarge and extend one's knowledge about the crea-tion of J.Steinbeck, in particular its imagological as-pect, its materials can be used during studying J.Steinbeck's lit-ry creation, developing lectures and practical courses in History of World lit-re of the XX century, in Lit-re of the USA, in lit-ry anthropology and anthropology of literature, special courses in compara-tive lit-re. Methods: imagological, comparative-historical, philological-descriptive, comparative-typological, structural-semiotical, method of lingu-ostylistic analysis of the text.
