Essay

The research focuses on the study of communicative and cognitive peculiarities of Tennessee Williams's dramaturgic discourse, which is defined in terms of its essential constituents - dramatic intrigue and speech genre. Cognitive models, which represent social structures - FATHER and SON, MOTHER and SON, SISTER-in-LAW and BROTHER-in-LAW are singled out to make corresponding speech genres - HEART-to-HEART TALK, WRANKLE, DEMAND. The specificity of verbal representation of the communicative activity and stylistic features of each speech genre are examined. The dominant concept LONELINESS is revealed. The concept is represented on two levels - lexico-semantic and communicative-pragmatic. The speech genre level is given privileged treatment. Three speech genres, which constitute the concept LONELINESS - LOVE-SICKNESS, DISILLUSIONMENT, REGRETFULLNESS, are singled out and analyzed. The obtained data are used to explain the changes on the artistic description of the world in Tennessee Williams's dramaturgic discourse.
