Buznyk O. The efficacy of post-burn persistent corneal ulcers treatment with excimer laser keratectomy

Object - post-burn persistent corneal ulcers. Purpose - to increase treatment efficacy of patients with post-burn persistent corneal ulcers. Methods - light microscopy, electron microscopy, clinical and statistical. Apparatus - excimer laser machine. It were estimated optimal parameters of excimer laser keratectomy for treatment of experimental post-burn corneal ulcer (ablation of 30 mcm of corneal tissue). Histological and electron microscopic examinations have shown that such parameters of excimer laser machine had stimulative influence on regeneration of burned cornea. Application of excimer laser keratectomy in patients accelerated corneal epithelization on 18 days, increased visual acuity on 0,08 comparing with surgical keratectomy group. It was new method of post-burn persistent corneal ulcers treatment proposed with excimer laser keratectomy of 30 mcm of corneal tissue application. Efficacy rate of excimer laser keratectomy is 92,3%. Results are adopted at The Filatov Institute and at the vision laser correction centre "Tarus", Odessa.
