Rozova I. Language Means of the Author’s Modality Expression (on the basis of satirical literature of the XX century)

The Thesis focuses on the study of diverse lingual means of expressing the author’s modality category which is regarded as a variety of the text modality category serving to convey the author’s negative subjective-evaluative attitude towards an object of certain social significance. It has been shown that different language means of the author’s modality, namely, morphemic, morphological, lexical, syntactic ones are functionally oriented to the adequate embodiment of the author’s artistic intention and have a common semantic function of satirical characterization within the satirical text. The structure of the functional-semantic field of the author’s modality has been analysed in communicative terms into two microfields, that of the satirical characterization of a personage and that of the satirical characterization of different phenomena of the surrounding reality.
