Essay

The object of the research is English-speaking discourse of 2000 and 2004 electoral presidential campaigns of republicans in its communicative characteristics. The aim of the research is to determine cognitive – communicative model of speech persuasion on the voters as realization of basic concepts of the politicians-republicans’ worldview in the strategies and tactics of their electoral discourse of 2000 and 2004 presidential campaigns. The methods of the research include analysis of the lexical definitions of the names of the concepts, their etymological reconstruction and semantic analysis of transferred nominations; functional and interpretive analysis of utterances. The elements of methods of content analysis and intent analysis have been applied fully for the first time. The scientific novelty of the research is consisted in the fact, that cognitive – communicative model of republicans’ electoral discourse has been developed for the first time, basic political concepts of their worldview have been revealed; the functional parameters of republicans’ electoral discourse have been determined; the self-presentation and presentation strategies of politicians-republicans have been systematized; the linguistic means of image creation of the candidate for the position of the president in the electoral discourse of G.W. Bush have been described. The conducted research represents theoretical significance for development of cognitive-pragmatic approach in linguistics. The achieved results are the contribution to the theory of discourse, to the linguistic cognitive science, to the theory of cognitive metaphor, to the pragmalinguistics, to the imagology. The practical value of the achieved results and conclusions are determined by the possibility of their usage in the courses of theoretical grammar of the English language (the section of “Pragmatics of the sentence”), relevant problems of linguistics (sections “Cognitive linguistics” “Pragmalinguistics”), special courses, concerning cognitive linguistics, political linguistics and imagology, in the practice of political campaigns, in the scientific researches of students and post-graduate students.
