Essay

Dissertation examines the formation and the development of a Slovak composers’ school. The methodological base could be defined as historical, typological and cultural approaches. The theoretical base is Ukrainian and foreign studies on national style in music, development of musical-style systems and their typology. The author for the first time determines the complex of national style features of Slovak music of the first half of XX century, its periodization in accordance with national style development dynamics, and its special features in comparison with the phenomen of Ukrainian, Czech, Hungarian and Polish musical cultures. Also the dissertation throws light upon non-musical factors and their influence on national style processes essence and course. Therefore, the dissertant analyses different genres compositions authored by Slovak сomposer’s school founders, i.e.: A.Moyzes, E.Suchon, J.Cikker, the ideas of national music concepts of Slovak music journalistic writings of the mentioned period.
