This research focuses on verbal and nonverbal aspects of the liar’s discourse behaviour in modern English fiction, elucidating cognitive, pragmatic, and emotive peculiarities of producing a communicative influence on the interlocutor in order to deceive him/her. Verbal and nonverbal discourse behavioural components used by the English-speaking liar have been viewed with regard to the emotive factor, and their linguistic, cognitive, and pragmatic features have been established.
