This thesis focuses on the functional properties of pronouns in American poetic texts. The analysis of pronouns' functions integrates cognitive, semiotic and linguosynergetic approaches. It has been argued that the functions of the pronouns in poetic texts are different from those in the grammatical system of the English language. The investigation of poetic context reveals the ability of pronouns to undergo transformation, variation, deviation and functional shift. Such changes of pronouns in poetic texts provide the interpretation of their class as a dissipated structure.
