Essay

Object: Cochlear vestibular system in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). The aim of work: was to examine the functional status of cochlear and vestibular system in patients with DM of different age groups in order to optimize the diagnostics and treatment of cochlear vestibular impairments. Methods of research and equipment: clinical, laboratory, instrumental and statistical; “Mimosa Acoustics” system for distortion products (DP) registration, electroencephalograph “EEG-8S”. Theoretical and practical results: Characteristics of cochlear and vestibular dysfunction in different age groups of patients with DM were obtained as a result of comprehensive cochlear vestibular functional status examination. The necessity was proved to separate out the group of assigned risk concerning cochlear and vestibular dysfunction development in DM patients, especially in decompensation stage. Novelty: the comparative comprehensive examination of cochlear vestibular system in three age groups of patients with DM was conducted for the first time. ?-Lipoic acid was first proposed for the purpose of cochlear vestibular impairment correction in patient with DM. Degree of introduction: the results can be used in diagnostics and treatment of DM patients as well as DM complication prediction. Area of using: endocrinology, otolaryngology, clinical diagnostics.
