Essay

This work is devoted to the revealing and studying of the spatial dispersion effects, caused by the electric and magnetic fields. It has been shown that incomplete non-reciprocity of Faraday effect unambiguously is manifested only in crystals that possess natural optical activity and can exist in magnetically non-ordered crystals under the conditions of non-zero linear birefringence. The magneto-electrooptic rotation of polarization plane induced by the combined action of external magnetic field and spontaneous polarization in Pb5Ge3O11 and Pb5Ge3O11:Cr3+ crystals have been revealed.
